There have been so many fantastic Fall product releases from my favorite crafty brands, and doing this blog series has given me the chance to play with so many great stamps and dies, I can’t wait to do this again next year!
Of all the Halloween themed stamps and dies that’ve come out this season, the Heroween Mystery Box from Hero Arts has been my favorite. It’s a Halloween themed advent calendar, packed with 13 days of crafty treats! I had the opportunity to unbox one at work, and I picked days two and three to play with.
Read along as I walk you through how I made this frightful haunted house card!
Haunted House (Day 3 of the Advent Calendar)
I began by die cutting the base of the house with black cardstock, and then I cut out the second layer of the house using purple cardstock. For the roofs, I used a black, multi-colored sparkle card stock.
Using my Hero Arts Intense black ink, I lightly shaded the edges of my purple house layer, to give it a slightly decayed and weathered look.
Using liquid glue, I glued my purple house layer onto the black base. Then I glued the roof pieces on last.
Using black cardstock, I cut out the base layers for my grass and bush pieces. Next, using lime green cardstock, I die cut my grass and bush pieces and glued them to the black bases. Using my black ink again, I lightly shaded the edges to give a decayed look. Then I set those pieces aside for later.
Using a light gray cardstock, I die cut my three ghosts. Using black ink again, I inked the edges of each ghost. Then I set aside the ghosts for later.
Arch Background
For the arch background, I used the Hero Arts Arches Infinity Dies. I grabbed the arch measuring 3 inches wide, as well as the next smallest arch measuring 2 3/4 inches.
On a scrap of glittery purple cardstock, I placed my small arch inside of my big arch, and secured them together with tape. When I ran this through my die cutter, it created an arched frame.
Using the small arch again, I placed it on a black velvet sheet, and ran it through my die cutter to create a solid black arch. I set both the arch frame and solid black arch aside for a later time.
Card Panel
For the panel, I cut a gray piece of cardstock down to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, and inked the edges with black ink. I set it aside for later.
Sentiment (Day 2 of the Advent Calendar)
Using the Halloween sentiments from Day 2, I picked out “Trick or Treat”. Using a stamping platform, I inked the sentiment in black and stamped it onto white cardstock.
Then I inked it again using the WOW! Embossing Ink, and added some clear embossing powder to it. I applied a heat gun to the sentiment until the powder congealed into a solid, shiny layer, and let it cool off for a couple of minutes.
Once my sentiment was cooled, I ran it through my die cutter with the coordinating die and set it aside for later.
Assembly
First I took my purple glitter arch frame and glued it to the center of my card panel, then I glued my black velvet arch inside of the purple frame.
I took my haunted house and glued it down onto my arch, slightly off center, with the uppermost tower overlapping onto the panel.
Taking the bush piece, I added glue to the bottom edge and placed it onto the top left side of the grass. For dimension, I added some pop dots to the back of this piece and placed it just below the house.
Then I glued my three ghosts to the card, one peaking out from the bush, another from the right side of the house, and the third coming out of the chimney.
I added pop dots to the sentiment pieces and placed them just below the arch.
Lastly, I glued the whole panel down onto a black card base to finish the card.
And that my friends, is one fantastic and spooky haunted house card!
You’ll NEVER catch me going into a haunted house in real life, but I love making them on paper!
