Lawn Fawn’s newest fall release is simply adorable! And being a cat person, naturally I was drawn to the Hocus Purr-cus stamp set when it came out. This set features five witch cats, lots of bubbly potions, spell books, and plenty of fun Halloween themed sentiments.
I had so much fun making this card. Read along as I show you how I put it together! LOTS of OLO colors ahead… 😉
First I stamped all of my images in black ink using Hero Arts INTENS-ified Black, and then I began coloring them in:
Cats
I colored the cats using the shade Cool Gray 3 (CG3), then I darkened the edges of each cat using Cool Gray 5 (CG5). For their little noses, I colored them with Peach Blossom (R2.2).
Witch Hat
For the witch’s hat that one of the cats is wearing, I used the color Violet (V2.4). I wanted to make the hat look a little aged, so I added Warm Gray 5 (WG5) to the edges of it, making the purple look a little worn. For the buckle on the hat, I used Pure Black (K) and Buttercup (Y2.3).
Potions
For the pink potion, I used the color Mallow (V0.4), and I shaded the bottom of the bottle with Violet (V2.4). For the green potion, I used the color Muscat Grape (YG2.3) and shaded the bottom with Spearmint (G1.4). For the orange potion, I used the color Light Yellow (Y1.2) and shaded the bottom with Orange (O1.4). For the two potions with caps, I used Cool Gray 5 (CG5).
Spell Books
For both of the green spell books, I colored them with Muscat Grape (YG2.3) and shaded the bottoms with Spearmint (G1.4). For the purple book, I colored it with Mallow (V0.4) and shaded the bottom with Violet (V2.4). For the gray book, I colored it with Warm Gray 1 (WG1), and shaded the bottom with Warm Grays 3 and 5 (WG3, WG5).
I colored most of the spell books with the same colors I used for the potions, to keep everything matching.
Wand
For the wand, I used Buttercup (Y2.3) for the star, and Warm Grays 3 and 5 (WG3, WG5) for the handle.
Using a white Gelly Roll pen, I added a few white streaks to my stamped images to add light and dimension.
Assembly
Once all of my images were stamped and shaded, I cut all of them out by hand – Unfortunately I didn’t have the metal dies for this set, but I think I did a decent job hand-cutting them…You can let me know what you think in the comments, haha!
Next, using black sparkly paper, I cut out my frame using Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Rectangle Frames dies.
Before adding the frame to my panel, I shaded the plaid panel in black ink using black ink.
I added foam tape to the back of my frame and placed it on my shaded panel. Then for the shelves, I cut out 2 each 1/4″ x 2″ strips of the same black paper, and added them on the panel using liquid glue.
I added foam tape squares to the back of my sleeping cat piece, and placed it on the bottom left corner of the panel, and then using liquid glue I placed the other two cats on the shelves.
Once all of my pieces were added, I glued my panel to a black card base.
To finish the card, I stamped the Have a magical Halloween sentiment in the Hero Arts black ink, and added a few iridescent gems.
I absolutely adore these witch cats from Lawn Fawn, and I can’t wait to keep playing with them! Plus it gives me an excuse to color with my OLO pens which has become such a relaxing pass time.
I love Halloween, and I’m especially excited for it this year because my two year old son might actually get to go trick or treating for the first time! I’m pretty sure he wants to be Spiderman for Halloween, I can’t wait to take all the cute pictures of him!
